I am amazed at how frugal and efficient the organization is, given its small budget.
I've volunteered for about 8 months and it's been the most rewarding experience I've ever had. The organization has no paid staff, only volunteers.

It holds several adoption events each week and sponsors a free food bank that provides pet food and supplies to pet owners who need assistance to care for their dogs and cats people who might otherwise have to give up their beloved companions because of financial hardship. The organization operates a no-kill cat shelter located at 12 Park Ave. This is a wonderful nonprofit run by caring, creative, hard-working men and women. Target demographics: cats, county residentsĭirect beneficiaries per year: over 100 cats find good homes and helped many others with pet food and pet altering We have adopted out over 1,300 cats since our organization was formed 10 years ago. of cat and dog food to needy pet owners over the past 10 years through our Chompers Pet food bank. Results: We've distributed 3665 spay-neuter certificates, 1193 for dogs and 2472 for cats since our Spay-Neuter program began. In order to save as many cats as possible, we have opened a no-kill, cage-free shelter in Gaithersburg. With this in mind, we are partnering with the county shelter to help save the most at-risk animals. AWLMC is committed to ending the euthanasia of adoptable animals in Montgomery County. While Hi-Tor will not turn away walk in surrenders, making an appointment allows us to reduce wait times, helps us find suitable space and housing for your animal in advanced, allows us to prep the necessary medical tasks, and provides that we can uphold the health and well-being of your animal to the highest possible regard.Mission: To improve animal welfare in Montgomery County by operating a no-kill shelter for adoptable cats and promoting responsible pet ownership. If you need to surrender an animal, your animal will best be set up for success by emailing or calling the center directly to make an appointment. Or if you would prefer, you may visit the care center during open business hours as a walk in and fill out the application on site upon your arrival, but there may be a small wait time and the animal you select may not be ready to leave the same day. You do not need to have a specific animal in mind when filling out the application as you will meet all of our animals during the time of your visit. Making an appointment will help us provide the best quality client service experience for you. The team at Hi-Tor is doing everything possible to keep the population healthy and moving, but community support and cooperation means everything to our success.
